In the
Mannheim Football stadium near a major American Army base, Jersey Joe
Walcott brought his power to the heart of the Rhur Valley in West Germany for a
dual with the German heavyweight champion Hein Ten Hoff, previously undefeated
in 31 combats with 81 wins, 16 by knockout.
But the streak ended in this rain-drenched contest with the flying fists
of Jersey Joe, as Ten Hoff suffered a broken nose early on and though he battled
through 10 full frames, the German big man was the obvious loser to all
spectators, with a unanimous decision found in favor of the American star. |
