“Duke City Slugout” Press Pass
Having played second fiddle to fellow New
Mexican 130 pounder Danny Romero, holder of the IBF crown for the division, far
too often, Johnny Tapia headlined here in Albuquerque’s Sports Stadium in his
WBO belt from the challenge of Hugo Raphael Soto, the Argentine IBF
Inter-continental champion, with a unanimous decision after the regulation
dozen rounds. Romero and Tapia would
resolve the issue of who was the best super fly in Duke City with a unifying
bout in Las Vegas the next July.
