O'Donnell, Steve Scheduled Event Ryan, Tommy vs. Smith, "Mysterious" Billy
This fight was one of three nights of major bouts scheduled for the Florida A.C. in Dallas before the Texas State Legislature outlawed professional prize fighting and then Governor Clarke swore he would uphold the ban (Titusville Morining Herald, Oct. 9, 1895). O'Donnell and Maher subsequently fought on November 11th, in Queens, New York, and Maher knocked out O'Donnell in the first round, and the "retiring" Gentleman Jim Corbett awarded the World Heavyweight Championship he had held to the victor. |
