World ("Colored") Heavyweight Championship King, Charlie vs. Wright, Milton Tarante, Jimmy vs. Coleman, Kid Walker, Obie vs. Jones, Sam (debut/final) Advertisement
Meeting in Atlanta's City Auditorium, this card of mostly local talent was headlined by the excellent African-American heavyweight boxing out of New York City, Al "One Punch" Walker facing off again with Georgia's "Fighting" Bob Lawson before Lawson's hometown crowd, billed as a "Return Match for the World's Colored Heavy-weight Championship," with Walker seeking to revenge his defeat after 10 rounds in the same venue 2 moths earlier. Walker was disqualified, though, in the 4th round of this 10, leaving the Atlantan with the crown. On the undercard this night in a pair of middling matches, Buckhead, Georgia's Charlie King earned his last win as a pro when he defeated Greenville, North Carolina novice heavyweight Milton Wright over the 6 round distance, while the Texan Tarante knocked out Kid Coleman in the 4th of their 6. In the short fight on the slate, the fine Georgian big man and future "colored" contender Obie Walker in only his 3rd professional event, taking his 3rd straight victory when an injury to the Atlanta rookie Jones's hand forced a stoppage and his retirement from the ring. With the wrong date for bout - "June 7" instead of the 6th when the show actually took place according to records - this advertising card might not have done the job intended.
